Photoshop elements 18 Media View gray box with question mark

I recently imported a large directory (a few days ago) and when I double click an image to open it in media view, instead of the image there is a gray box with a question mark in the center.  It acts like the image is there as it has facial recognition circles and the caption below.  I just can't see the image.

Does anyone know why?
