Photoshop Elements 2019 (version 17) unable to download - Update your browser

Following a reinstall of Windows 10 I needed to re-download Photoshop Elements 2019 (version 17) which I had purchased from Adobe.

The installer downloads fine from my Adobe account Products page, but when I run it, it generates the error message: "Update your browser. To use Adobe services, please update your Adobe applications, operating systems and browser to the latest versions".

As far as I am aware, they are fully updated, and Elements was working fine prior to reinstalling Windows.

Interestingly I have been able to download Elements v.11 and Elements v.14 - but v.14 doesn't open my camera's RAW files.

I have also downloaded the Creative Cloud Desktop, which works fine.

I've tried running the installer in Windows 7 compatability mode (as someone suggested).

I'm using Norton firewall, but the Adobe installer is listed as "allow" for Network Access.

Edge is my default browser.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't understand why the older versions downloaded fine, but v 17 didn't. Any suggestions gratefully received. I know similar questions have been raised before and I've followed relevant advice but with no result.

Thank you

I dealt with the same issue.  First tried to install Adobe Photoshop Elements 19 on Win11, then on a different machine that was Win10.  I had the same issue you are describing.  Both ended with the same "Update your browser. To use Adobe services, please update your Adobe applications, operating systems and browser to the latest versions".

Take your computer offline then install the program.  I tried this on both computers and it worked.

@cm63122725 try disconnecting your machine from the internet while installing.

That doesn't work, and Adobe doesn't care. They have our money and use unpaid forum contributors run interference for them.

If they can't provide a working installation program, would you trust them to program an AI application?

Maybe that's a question best asked on social media and stock trading forums.

FOR DOWNLOAD ISSUES:

If you have a registered copy of Elements, you can download the full package from the Products page of your Adobe account.  (Make sure you are signed into your account.)  You will also find your serial number there.

I recently learned that there are two URLs to the Products page.  One only contains more recent versions of the program.  My link should take you to a complete listing of every registered Elements program in your account.

Thank you for responding, but that page is the one which I have been using, but without any success for Elements 2019 (v.17)

I have downloaded my registered copies of Elements v.11 and v.14, but whenever I run the installer for my registered copy of v.17 I get the error message - "Update your browser. To use Adobe services, please update your Adobe applications, operating systems and browser to the latest versions".

I have tried numerous browsers wihtout success. I have also successfully used Edge to install v11, v14, v2025 and creative cloud desktop - so it doesn't appear to be an issue of firewalls or browser compatability.

In the meantime, look at this post from an Adobe employee.  It provides the most comprehensive information I know about installation and activation issues.

Thank you - but that post appears to mainly be about problems with activating software or accessing Adobe servers - whereas i can't get Elements v17 to download.  I can get other Adobe products to download, so I don't appear to have an overall problem with activation or accessing servers.

I started by trying to download version 17 following a complete wipe disk and reinstall of Windows, only moving onto v11 and v14 (and also CC desktop and Elements 2025) when I couldn't download version 17 - so I don't see how uninstalling  Adobe applications, using CC cleaner and then reinstalling would help.

I appreciate there may be a number of reasons behind Adobe's less than helpful error warning, and I am not technical so could easily be missing something, but I don't see how to use the information on that page.

Thank you however for continuing to look into this.

I understand your frustration with this problem.  I have asked Adobe to provide some better information about the cause of this ever-increasing issue amongst users of legacy versions.  I have also asked for an update to the HelpX files.  If I get a response I will post further.

And FWIW, I find the On1 Photo Raw program to have awful performance issues.

Thanks. I've seen that page before, but it refers to editing the registry to resolve problems with Internet Explorer 11 compatability mode. I'm not using IE11.

Try a different browser.

I tried that, from edge to chrome, with no difference and the fact that 2024 Elements installed fine with edge, tells me that the browser is not the problem here

I have the same problem with version 18, I tried downloading the 2024 version and installed it and then tried again with the version 18 and now I got passed the "Update your browser" error but after 20% installing it stopped again, I know this dosent solve your problem, but maby you can use this to try new things and maby finding a solution.

Thanks - are you suggesting that if I download the trial version of Elements 2025, then 2019 might download?

Yes, 2024 or 2025 it ended the "Update your browser" error for me

But it only ended the "Update your browser" error and the install started, but stopped again when only 20% installed.
