After successfully using PSE 2021 for a few weeks, not the Editor doesn't launch anymore.

Any idea how to fix this?

Thank you  very much for your help.

I use a Macbook Pro 2018 with macOS Mojave, 10.14.6 (18G7016)

Am 20 min into an online chat with someone named Justin at Adobe help center. His wonderful advise to this problem is to buy a new version and pay the monthly license because Photoshop Elements 2021 is no longer supported. $100 down the drain and I've owned the software less than 12 months.

Update to the above miserable Adobe customer support experience. I called the 800# line and a different, infinitely more capable and cordial support team member fixed my problem by simply updating my OS to Monterey 12.3.1. Would have saved me and the new support person 1.25 hours if "Justin" had simply suggested I try this and reach back out if it did not work.

Thank you to Adobe for restoring my faith in your products and service. Been with you for 20+ years.

I have the same problem using 2020 on Windows 10 (x64).  I can launch the Editor maybe 4-5 times, but after that it it doesn't launch.  I have tried restarting Photoshop, but it still doesn't come up.  It usually comes back if I reboot.  Uninstalling/reinstalling is not an option since I don't want to run the risk of losing pictures or reconfigure all the libraries.  This thread was started in 2021 and I think Adobe should provide their customers with a real solution.  Someone mentined that it was an issue with the Cloud and I can believe that.  However, I shouldn't be depending on the Cloud to edit my software and it is not something I chose.  Adobe needs to come up with a real solution that doesn't include me upgrading to a new version (unless it is free) or reinstalling anything.

I have the same problem. I'm on aMacBookAir, Monterey 12.2.1. Can no longer use PSE 2021. I installed and reinstalled it and that worked a couple of times, but no more. I do get the splash screen but can't open PSE. Very annoying. Organizer opens, but that doesn't help. Adobe, please fix this!

I have same problem. After updating to Monterey version 12.2, Adobe Photoshop Elements 2021 Editor will not open. Bouncing in dock. Double clicking photos in Finder, photos will not open (that used to work).

I gave up and ordered the PSE 2022 upgrade (but not the combo with Premiere Elements, which I wouldn't use anyway). Adobe charged the usual $80 upgrade fee instead of a more reasonable amount for PSE 2021 users, who both Adobe and Apple have basically flipped off. If I did not have so much invested in the PSE Organizer environment and the Mac/iPhone systems, I would flip them off in response.

The only way I can get it to work, if it does, is to restart the iMac, go to my applications folder through finder, click on the Organizer, then click on editor from there.  If I close it I have to do the whole routine again to open it back up. I have been a PSE user since it first came out.  Maybe it's time to look at an alternative?

You might try creating a shortcut to the editor by going into the Elements 2021 program and scrolling down to the Elements 2021 Editor icon.  I created this shortcut to avoid the idiotic home page.  Opening through the home page was killing my work flow.

I also have the same problem with PSE 2021 and latest Monterey 12.1 on my Macbook Pro. Been using Elements for many years and just recently upgraded tp 2021. Previous version 2018 worked fine using Big Sur. The 2021 Elements dashboard will open, but when I click on the Editor icon it will not open. Just sits in the dock and bounces up and down until I force quit. Have tried reinstalling Elements 2021, rebooting my mac normally plus also in safe mode. The editor will not open when I selct it from within the Elements dashboard or directly from the dock.

Very frustrating when you plan to work on a project and you can not open Elements Editor.

I've read this thread but dont see an update or a solution. Can someone please confirm if Adobe is working on a fix or is there something I am doing wrong.

Thanks

tomp - My problems with running PSE 2021 Editor seem to have disappeared since I updated my iMac to Monterey 12.1. However, before doing that, I tried all of the suggestions seen in previous comments without success. I was able to get things going using the Editor.exe app hidden in the Editor contents (see earlier comments), which pulls up Terminal and appears to rely on the internet connection to Adobe, but that approach was hit or miss. But, as I said before, updating to macOS 12.1 got me going again.

MY ELEMENTS HAS CHOKED ON MAC! I have PS elements 2020. I can no longer upload TIFF files. Adobe Help has told me the latest IOS version Monterey 12.0.1 is not compatible with PSE. This includes PSE 2022. Specs are only macOS 10.15 or macOS 11 BUT NOT HIGHER. They suggested I downgrade to previous IOS version as they have not got around to testing with Monterey. They may find a fix for 2022 but no promises a fix coming for 2020. They suggested I download PSE 2022 trial - Also didn't work. My parting comment to Adobe help was that I have owned PSE 2020 for only 1 year and already redundant. As apple often upgrade their operating system PSE 2022 will soon be incompatible with the next newer version of IOS. WTF. This is amazingly slack from such a big company. They have not even bothered to test with the latest IOS AND they have produced such an unstable package with zero support. BE WARNED!

Totally agree.  Not a good advertisement for Adobe products.

Two comments:

* You get what you pay for - this is *free* software.

* Systems have become so amazing complex that the "continuous improvement" required to keep us coming back for more means that bugs appear as fast as they are fixed. What you get is a sawtooth graph of bugs.  You want the version with all the bug fixes, right before they send out a new upgraded release.

Time to unwind to the previous version.

Free? No sir. It cost me £86 in the UK. The error was happening in previous versions, and it still happens in this latest. I have been in big software development since 1980. The same fool error shouldnever keep happening. Continuous improvement does NOT mean keeping the same  flaw.

For me, PSE 2021 worked fine with Big Sur but will open in Monterey only after I restart my iMac (the latest Intel machine). PSE then appears to work until I exit Editor or Organizer, at which time any attempt to restart either Organizer or Editor does nothing and I get a not responding message. I'm guessing that Adobe and Apple don't communicate very well when either company releases an update. This isn't the first time I have had problems upgrading PSE without any resolution by Adobe. I will certainly not try PSE 2022 until this is resolved. Maybe it's time to try another photo editor made by a company that cares.

Hi,

This issue might be specific to your machine, as this has been working and we have not heard many customers reporting the same issue. One possible resolution could be to try uninstalling and reinstalling the application, Please remember to keep your preferences while removing the app, so you dont have to again set your preferences.

The installer can be downloaded from here if required: https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/kb/photoshop-elements-downloads.html

Please let me know if the issue still persists.

Thanks

Vipin

Thanks, Vipin. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling PSE Editor without success. I am hesitant to uninstall both Organizer and Editor (i.e., the whole suite) because the last time I had to do that when moving from PSE 2019 in High Sierra to PSE 2021 in Big Sur, I lost the connections between hundreds of edited photos and their originals and  gothundreds of incorrect connections when I tried to repair the catalog (maybe because several cameras over the years put identical photo names on pictures taken years apart). It took me months to fix the connection problems. If I uninstall and reinstall everything, will the catalog disappear as well even if I save the preferences? If I save a catalog, will it kee the proper connections? In any case, if past experience means anything, this almost seems like a corrupt preferences file is acting up. Since many people in the Community have reported the same problem I have had (that is, works once, then requires computer reboot to work again in both PSE 2021 and PSE 2022), it seems to me that a fix should come from Adobe.

Could you please confirm the below details:

1. Is your Product Activated?

2. Do you see the Blue Color Splash Screen when you try to launch the Editor?

3. Have you tried launching it from Inside the Applications Folder -> Photoshop Elements 2021 -> Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor

4. Have you tried rebooting your system?

5. Please check if Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor is already running in Activity Monitor, if Yes -> Please kill it and then try again.

Regards

Vipin
