Question

Photoshop Elements 6 suddenly stopped working

I have used Elements 6 for many years.  It is perfect for my needs.  It suddenly stopped working.  It almost feels like there is a broken "link".  When I try to open the program, a dialogue box opens asking if I want to make changes to my computer using this program.  Answering "Yes:" causes a split second pause and then nothing.  The program does not open.  Answering "no" causes the same response.

I have the original disk that I used to install the program many years ago.  There is a repair wizard on the disk.  When I go thru that process, I come to a box with the request to "Please Insert the disk:1"  Since I have only one disk, this didn't make sense.  My questions are as follows:

Since this was a sudden lose of use, could something be corrupt and easily repaired?

If I uninstall the product, will I lose my photos and tags?

Can I reinstall with the one disk I have?

If I were to upgrade, do I have to go to 15?  (I really don't need all the features, just want basic grouping and emailing options)

Of course, open to any help at all.  Not super techy, so be aware.

Thank you for your help

It could have been affected by a Windows update.  Try System Restore.  If that fixes it, download updates one at a time to see which update affected it.
