Question

PhotoShop Elements 7 - License Key invalid

OK, so I had PSE7 pre-installed on my PC when new.

I registered the product, and it's been fine since then (July 2010).

After the recent Windows 10 'designer' update, PSE has stopped working.

It launches OK, but then the graphics go all funny & the product is unusable.

So, I uninstalled & reinstalled after downloading a copy from the Adobe website.

Problem 1.

When I launch the product, I'm presented with a 'Software Setup' dialog, and am invited to enter my serial no. Entering this tells me that the key is invalid, and so I can't continue.

Why is my registered product license key not working?

Problem 2.

If I bypass this screen, and proceed as if I were trialling the software, I still have the same graphics problem as before.

What's going on?

Anyone else experiencing the 'Post recent Windows 10 update' problem?

And I've spent the last 30 minuted chatting with an Adobe service representative, but they deem my license key issue a 'technical' problem.

Any help gratefully received.

Owners of old programs simply have problems with Windows 10... none of which is Adobe's fault... Adobe did not change your old program to make it stop working... Microsoft changed their operating system and THAT is why your old program won't work, not because of anything Adobe did... Also... every time Microsoft issues a Win10 update, there is the risk that an old program that HAS been working after the initial Win10 upgrade will STOP working... bottom line, old programs require a matching old operating system

Two ideas that MAY work to install and/or run old programs in Windows 10
-RIGHT click the program icon or EXE and select a compatibility mode in the pop up option window
-or Run as Administrator http://forums.adobe.com/thread/969395 to assign FULL Windows permissions may help... says Encore, but sometimes required for ALL Adobe programs (this is NOT the same as using an Administrator account)
    -or more on permissions https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2293598

    Hi,

thanks for the post. Yeah, gotta love Microsoft...

The link to the 'Run as Administrator' thread in your post points to a page which is no longer there.

I've tried to run PSE in Win7, Vista & XP compatibility modes, and as Administrator - all to no avail.

Running as Vista comes closest - most of the icons resolve, but the menus have no visible options on them.

XP & Win7 are no hope.

My license key should be valid - I registered the product back in 2010 & it appears on my Adobe account as such.

I guess I'll just have to seek out an alternative product. So, so frustrating.
