Question

Photoshop Elements 8 unexpected quits on Windows 10

I have tried to load elements 8 on a new computer (surface pro  8gb memory win10 pro) at least 6 times. Each time the editor loads (although the tool bar fonts are much too small), but the organizer always gives an error message ("detected the app has unexpectedly quit"). I have sent the error reports to adobe with may email address and not heard anything. How do I go about getting some help?

Two ideas that MAY work to install and/or run old programs in Windows 10

-RIGHT click the program icon or EXE and select a compatibility mode in the pop up option window

-or Run as Administrator http://forums.adobe.com/thread/969395 to assign FULL Windows permissions may help... says Encore, but sometimes required for ALL Adobe programs (this is NOT the same as using an Administrator account)

Owners of old programs simply have problems with Windows 10... none of which is Adobe's fault... Adobe did not change your old program to make it stop working... Microsoft changed their operating system and THAT is why your old program won't work, not because of anything Adobe did... Also... every time Microsoft issues a Win10 update, there is the risk that an old program that HAS been working after the initial Win10 upgrade will STOP working... bottom line, old programs require a matching old operating system

Thank you for the help. I tried both suggestions, separately and together, and they didn't work. I'm sure you are right about Elements 8 not being compatible with Win 10; I should have guessed that myself. Do you know if Elements 2018 will use all my tags, etc, from Elements 8 Organizer, or how I can find out?

    Thanks for the help.

I don't have version 8, but I think it's possible to have it work with Windows 10. Version 6 works for me.

That said, the current 2018 version can use your PSE8 catalogs with all your tags.

If you install version 2018 on the same computer (the hardware requirements suppose it's a 64-bits hardware), at the end of the installation, you'll be asked if you want to 'convert' your current catalog. You agree, then a new catalog in the current format is created from the old one. The old one is still available for PSE8; it has been renamed with a -1 suffix.

If you want to migrate to a new computer, use the backup and restore process.

    Move Elements Organizer catalog

The catalog conversion is included in the process.
