PhotoShop Elements 9 Crashing

I have a mid-2009 MacBook Pro running 10.11.6 (El Capitan). I have PSE 9 and have found that it will occasionally crash and this morning I tried to quit and finally had to force quit the application. Does El Capitan not support PSE 9?
