Photoshop Elements Editor Crashes Computer - Windows 11

I recently upgraded to PhotoShop Elements (PSE) 24 from version PSE version 22 about a month ago. My previsous version 22 was stable and rarely if ever experienced issues. Version 24 is just awful! Everytime I use the Photo Editor - and I don't mean the blue screen of death, the entire computer shuts down instantly and reboots (no screen). I'm getting tired of having to restart my computer everytime I use PS Elements 24.

I've deleted and reinstalled the Photoshop Elements 24three times - but still no fix. I also purchased Premier 24 with PSE 24 but elected not to install it as well because it was also having stability issues.

I'm running the lastest version of Windows 11, all updates installed, latest version of Adobe Photoshop Elements 24, with RAW. I ran sfc /scannow - no errors. I have a GeForce GTX 3070 GPU installed if that matters. The computer operates satisfactory with all other installed programs and Apps. Only PSE 24 crashes my computer. Everytime, and I mean everytime I try to Colorize an image in the Photoshop Editor my computer crashes and reboots. The repeated crashes have decimated the Catalogue file which now need to be rebuilt - repaired from scratch which takes considerable time with 82,560 images.

I have the faintist clue what may be causing this issue. Fourteen reboots today alone from PSE...I finally gave up and quit using the PSE editor because I have other necessary work to do. 😞

I'd appreciate any insight on how to resolve this issue. At this point I'm about ready to give up on PSE 24 and look elswhere.

@Wm3205220338ln, actually, I believe this thread offers a lot of good information for other users, not least of which is your hardware issue, which is something we often forget about. And also the fact that Adobe ultimately and satisfactorily resolved a user problem.

(And fortunately or unfortunately, only Adobe moderators can delete a thread. Community Expert-Moderators do not have that power.)

I did what you suggested and have submitted my "scam" info to Adobe for review. Hopefully they will restore my access to the PSE editor which is currently revoked (license key). The revoked license key, the key that I purchased in November of 2023 is still listed in my Adobe account of registered products. I'm not hopefully Adobe will restore access - but we shall see.

In the meantime I installed a trial version of ON1 Photo Raw 2024 to edit my photos. Nice App, but not quite as familiar as PSE, but it works very well. ON1 is supposedly planning to release a 2025 version soon. If Adobe does not restore my 2024 purshased license key, then I will consider switching to ON1 Photo Raw 2025 or possibly purchase PSE 2025 if it's released in the next month or so.

I'd like to END this thread on a positive note - MY ISSUE, PHOTOSHOP EDITOR CRASHES COMPUTER - WINDOWS 11" has been RESOLVED, though I haven't tested it with my non-operative version of PSE 2024 Editor. Let me explain.

After installing ON1 Photo Raw 2024, I noted I was having the identical crash issues when editing photos, aka the black screen of death. After running a few diagnostic programs on my computer, it became apparenty my problem was Hardware related, not a PSE 2024 or Windows 11 problem. How was this missed? For the past year I've had a slowly dying PSU that would power off when placed under a heavy load, editing. I replaced the PSU with a new and upgraded model and NO MORE CRASHES!

Though I'm delighted to have resolved my computer crash issue, I'm really upset that I needlessly spent so much time troubleshooting this issue the past year, wasting your and my time posting on the Adobe Community (here), being scammed on this help board (here) and having my PSE 2024 license key revoked. A lot of pain and anxiety over a slowly dying PSU. As always, YMMV

Just a follow-up to my post in January 2024.

My computer still crashes regularly when using PSE. I noted recently the when using the Enhance -> Smooth Skin feature the computer crashes (reboots) everytime while the "Launching Smooth Skin Dialog" pop-up box is displayed and loading.

I've tried all recommendations on this board and still don't have a clue why PSE is crashing. I did not have these issues with Photoshop 2022 on the identical computer.

I also noted that my paid PSE Serial number has been revoked by Adobe, probably due to an Adobe Community scammer - so I'll need to contact Adobe to have a new serial number issued / registered.

My copy and key to PSE is now non-functional and I realize I probably have lost $100 thanks to an Adobe Community scammer.

The good news is I'm no longer experiencing PSE computer crashes, the bad news, I no longer can use PSE to access my photos and videos.

Let me add clarification to the PSE Editor Colorize system crash issue I'm experiencing. In the Editor, when I select Enhance and Colorize Photo, the Colorize Photo App launches sucessfully. The computer only crashes when I click on one or more of the four (4) "Click below to Colorize your photo" boxes on the right of the screen. The App toggle buttons are set to their defaults, "Auto" and "After". Sometimes the computer will crash when I click on the first box, sometimes it will crash when I click on the third box after clicking on two of the other boxes - it varies. In anycase, if I click on multiple boxes the computer will eventually crash. I will change the default toggle button positions to "Manual" and "Before" and see if the system continues to experience crashes.

Today I removed the Nvidia GTX 3070 GPU from my computer and switched to the Intel Core i9 10850K CPU's Integrated GPU to test if the system crash issue is related to the Nvidia GPU. Sadly, my computer crashed on the second click of the "Colorize your photo" boxes in the PSE editor while using the internal or integrated GPU.

The Nvidia GTX3070 GPU is not the cause of PSE Editor system crashes when using the Colorize feature/function.

Let me just say that after three (3) months without a resolution to my computer crashing issue I'm disappointed in Adobe and the folks moderating this board. Seems the only folks sincerely interested in resolving this issue, or at least I originally thought so, turned out to be an Adobe Community scammer.

In addition to the editor "Colorize" computer crash issue, my computer also crashes occasionally when the the AUTO adjustment / exposure button in the Adobe Camera Raw 15.5 editor is clicked when editing an *.ARW file. I don't know if the editor "Colorize" feature and the "Auto" RAW editor issues are related to each other or not, but they both instantly shutdown and force my computer to reboot.

I'm not sure that setting the card correctly to PEG in the Bios disables the integrated graphics. I suggest going to Device Manager in the Control Panel and seeing whether both Display adapters are enabled. If so, disable the Intel GPU.

Checked both Windows (Device Mgr) and in BIOS, the IGPU is disabled the best I can tell. Disabling the IGPU did not resolve the PSE Editor ->Colorize system crash issue.

In addition to your Nvidia card do you possibly have an integrated Intel GPU on your desktop? If so, try disabling it.

Try turning off all media analysis in the Organizer. Also turn off Auto Synch if that is turned on in your preferences.

Both the Auto Sync and Media Analysis is turned off. The computer still crashes (reboots) every time I click on Enhance => Colorize Photo in the Photoshop Editor. Interesting that I never had this issue with PSE version 22. As soon as I upgraded to version 24, my computer started crashing (rebooting) nothing else changed in the system configuration.

Make sure to use the latest Studio Driver from NVIDIA (NOT the Game Driver).

I have latestest NVIDIA Studio Driver version 346.33 installed w/o GeForce Experience. Computer still crashes (reboots) every time I click on Enhance => Colorize Photo in the Photoshop Editor.

Please confirm your studio driver version. The driver you mention earlier was released about 9 years ago.

I have a rtx 3060 with 12GB of ram- not sure if your driver would be that different, definatly should not be 9 years old.

The screenshot of your system info indicates you have windows 10 installed, not windows 11.
