Question

Photoshop switches between foreground and background color randomly

I need to have the same color in foreground and background to be sure I'm using the correct one.
Let's say I have black and white selected. I want to use black, which is in foreground, most of the time it just uses white. Completely random. Doesn't help to switch them.

What can I do? I'm using pencil tool btw.

Which version of photoshop elements are you using?

Sounds like in the Pencil Tool Options that Auto Erase is checked.

If so, uncheck Auto Erase and see if that solves the issue.

Could it be that you are accidentally hitting X on the keyboard?

X toggles between black/white

D is the keyboard shortcut for default (foreground=black)
