Picture quality isn't the same after saving

I just started a trial and the first picture I edited looked great, but when I saved it, it went to something called Sketch Pad and the the picture quality was not the same and was dark on one end.  Anyone have and idea what went wrong?

Hi ,

 

If you are saving images other than PSD formats, like JPEG, PNG , then picture quality depends on quality slider or w, h values you choose .

What OS are you using?  What do you mean when you say the save went to something called Sketch Pad?  Can you post a screenshot.
