Picture resolution when placed into a Word doc

When I insert a picture in Word that has 300 pixels/inch resolution, is that resolution maintained?

    I think 200 ppi is the max resolution in Word. After inserting a picture you can choose compression settings from the ribbon – see image below.

    You could experiment with document resolution and 200 ppi to see which gives best results. I’m not completely sure of the difference.
