Pink screen and disappearing text in PS elements 15

I will go to insert text, after creating a box the photo turn a pink tint.  After I write my txt and click the green check my text will stay highlighted and then disappear. Can anyone help?

    Have a look at the tool palette on the bottom. You may have mistakenly chosen the wrong tool option 'Horizontal Type Mask Tool' = an icon with a 'T' letter with dotted lines contours.
