Please Help!! Where are my edited photos??

I am using Photoshop Elements 15 on a MAC.  I set PSE as my default editor in IPhotos on my MAC.  I have edited several photos and then used SAVE FOR WEB and created a new folder to store my edited photos.  Unfortunately, when I created the new folder I did not select the PICTURES folder on my MAC as the location to create this new folder in.  In fact, I did not select any location for the new folder and have no idea where the default location would be.  Consequently, I have saved all of my photographs to a folder I cannot locate on my MAC and according to Apple Tech Support it is not on the MAC.  I have tried searching for the folder name using both FINDER and SPOTLIGHT and it is not found in either location, however if I go and edit another photo and save it it defaults to this last folder I created and I can see all of my other photos are in there but cannot open the folder.  I other words, it will allow me to continue saving to that folder but I have no idea where it is and cannot open it to move these edited photos to the web!!!  I have contacted Apple support and they tried to assist but feel this is an issue or setting in PSE.  Can anyone please direct me on how to get to this folder and move these photographs into a folder on my MAC??

I'm a Windows guy not a Mac, so I'm just guessing:

Does it show the path of the folder when you go to save like it does in Windows?

Could it be on an external drive that is not now connected?
