png file format does not open properly

I recently purchased Photoshop Elements 2019 and I find that when I try to open a png file it is all washed out. Anyone know whats up with that?

    Have you calibrated your monitor?

    Why would I want to mess around with my monitor. The png formatted pics open fine in other applications (i.e. MS Photos). It seems to be only Photoshop Elements that has a problem displaying them. I have been unhappy with Elements ever since buying it and trying to install it. What a frustrating mess that was. Now this issue. I will no longer be recommending Photoshop Elements as I photo editor like I used to.
