Problem Converting Elements 6 catalogue to Elements 2018

I am jumping from Elements 6.0 to Elements 2018, all in one go (I hope)!

I have read various posts on the forum and understand I need to convert my old catalogue, once I have backed it up in the old version (which I have done).  In explorer I can see the relevant files i.e. backup.tly & catalog.buc and all the photo files exist.

Then when in 2018 elements, I go to manage catalogues, select convert, select find more catalogues.  However when I select the folder where I know the above files are, nothing is listed or can be selected.

Please help my New Year start well with my extensive old catalogue of categories and ratings I'm my new version of elements.

Yes I know, next time I should not leave it so long for an update!

Many thanks

Jonathan

The .buc and the .tly files are part of your backup you made. To restore your Catalog once PSE 2018 has been installed, do the following. Click on File > Restore Catalog and then follow the screen prompts. During the restore process, PSE 2018 should tell you it is converting the Catalog from an earlier version, in your case, PSE 16.

I am somewhat surprised that during the installation of PSE 2018 you did not see a message that told you  it found the Catalog from an earlier version, and asking or telling you it was converting it to PSE 2018. That is usually what happens when you install the new version on the same machine.

Thanks for your help with this, it has worked fine.  All my research on the forum had convinced me (incorrectly) I had to convert the catalog first.  Eventually I simply restored from my last backup made in the old version and the covert function was automatic as part of the restore (as was the creation of new thumbnails).  So although I let it run overnight, I ended up doing exactly what you suggested in your reply (thanks) and it matched exactly to what you suggested.

In case it helps anyone else, this was a new pc, and I only had the new 2018 elements version loaded on this.  The catalog was on an external hard drive and it was this I restored from.
