Problem moving PSE 15 to a different PC

Hello (and Happy New Year!)

I have installed PSE 15 on another PC in my household. I copied the catalogue back up files to this PC and did a restore. The restore successfully duplicated all the photo files to the new PC in the correct drive and structure. However there is no catalogue under \Program data\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs, other than the default "My Catalog." Nor can I find it anywhere else.

Obviously I have done something wrong. Can anyone tell me what is was?

Thanks & regards,

Jim

    Hi,

You can check your current catalog location from Help> System Info.. , under Catalog Location field:

    Thanks.

    Jim,

When you restore on another computer or drive, the catalog folder is not restored in the default (hidden) location. It's restored on a new subfolder under the master folder you did choose for the restore of the library. You can find it by the folder name. To be sure you can do a search for the catalog.pse15db database file under the destination for the restore.

You open the organizer with that catalog by double clicking on the catalog.pse15db file; or you use the catalog manager and browse to the restored catalog folder.

If you want to move the catalog folder back to the default location, you can do that with the 'move' button in the catalog manager.

Remember that you can move or duplicate the catalog folder as you want from the Explorer or Finder.

    Hi Michel,

Thank you for your  reply. I can confirm that no restored catalogue was seen anywhere on the PC when I restored from a backup catalogue. A search indicated that the only catalog on the syatem was the default "My Catalogs."

It my be that I didn't provide the right instructions for the restore. Certainly I didn't realise (or had forgotten) that Restore recreated all the photo files in their directory structure.

Prior to the restore operation, I had copied all the photofiles in the correct drive, directory and  sub directories to the new PC.

Needless to say I was some what surprised when I started the restore proces, to see that the directories were being created again in a sub directory, bearing the same name as the directory I had created. I quickly deleted all the sub directiories that I had copied and allowed the restore to proceed. It was only necessary to move the root directory, the restore created, from under the root directory that I had created. It may be that this was when a restored catalog got deleted.

In any event I simply copied the catalog from the old PC to the new and everything is now fine.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Jim
