Problem upgrading from Elements 10 to Elements 2018

Having a major problem in upgrading from Elements 10 to Elements 2018. I installed 2018, and it seems to be working just fine, as far as I can tell. To start, I brought up the Catalog Manager to convert the catalog from Elements 10 to Elements 2018. First try the conversion failed, and it said to go and repair the catalog with the version of Elements that created it. So I did that, and the next try at catalog conversion it said that it succeeded. And I went and looked where the catalog is, and found a new catalog folder with a new catalog and associated files and folders in it. However, when I opened the converted catalog, no photos show up. Just a blank screen, no media. So I tried the thing that has worked for me in the past, and clicked on the catalog "db" file. This brought up Elements 2018 as I expected, but again, no photos, no albums, no nothing.

Wondering what I can do? Photos are still fine in Elements 10, no problem there. But the converted catalog shows no photos. I could easily start a new catalog, but I'd lose all my albums. It would take me a long time to remake all those albums that were made over the years, so that's my last resort.

Any ideas of where I can go from here to get this to work? I even tried removing the new catalog, and re-converting the old one. Same results, of course, no media found.

Thanks!

I'm wondering if there's some way that I can get just the photo keyword data from Elements 10 to Elements 2018? I tried "write keyword tags and properties to photos", and even though the keywords applied in Elements 10 are how the albums were made (and show up as keywords when I look at the photo properties in Elements 10), when I try to import the photos with the metadata written to them, the keyword tags don't show up in Elements 2018. If Elements 10 is doing the right thing, Elements 2018 should see the keyword tags written into the photo files by Elements 10, one would think.

I also tried putting the contents of the albums into folders, but that also doesn't work since some photos are in multiple albums. So when I try to import the folders that represent the albums so that I can put them in the albums (or tag them or something), it will not import the "duplicates"...what I was hoping would happen would be that it would see the "duplicates" as it imported them and add their tag information to the same photos that were already imported.

Seems like everything that I try that should work with Elements does not. The Elements 10 catalog is converted by Elements 2018, but shows no media. Elements 10 spent a long time writing all the keyword tag/metadata to the photos, and those keyword tags aren't seen in Elements 2018.

About ready to give up here. There's no way that I can hand sort 10,000 photos and re-apply tags by hand. And I'm running short of ideas.

Has anyone successfully upgraded from Elements 10 to Elements 2018? How did you do it and keep your photo metadata?
