Defaults App status has changed. Win 10 will select other Apps. Will not select Photoshop Element 2018. Can open individual files by "Open With..." drop down menu. Will not set PSE 2018 as default by file type, or "Always open this file type by..." options. next step to uninstall and reinstall? Any other ideas?

I have the identical problem and all Adobe can do is blame Windows 10!!!! Surely they should sort this out? I have just upgraded to Elements 19 Trial version but will not be buying it if this cannot be fixed! How come Photoshop Express is compatible with Windows 10?

    Hello,

Apologies for the inconvenience you had to face.

Please try out the following steps.

    1. Press Win + R keys to launch the Run dialog box

    2. Type 'Regedit' and press enter

    3. Navigate to the following location:

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\ (select the folder corresponding to the desired file type, say .jpg or .png)\OpenWithProgids

    4. Add a new 'Binary Value' PhotoshopElements.Image.17

Now you should be able to set Photoshop Elements 2019 as the default application. Should there be any more queries, I would be happy to assist you.

    Thanks,

    Medha

The above-mentioned steps are specific to Photoshop Elements 2019.

For other versions of Photoshop Elements, please ensure that you add the correct Registry value. For e.g., if you're using Photoshop Elements 14, your registry value would be: PhotoshopElements.Image.14

    Thanks,

I am experiencing the same problem.  I just set up a brand new computer at work and we (computer tech) can't change the default app for opening images.  We have tried everything.  Paint and Paint 3D can be selected and applied.  When we click on Photoshop Elements 14 the screen gives a little flash but the default app doesn't change to Photoshop Elements 14.  We are using Windows 10 Pro Version 1803 (OS Build 17134.407).  Please advise.

    Hello,

To select Photoshop Elements Editor as the default app for certain file types (say PNG), please follow these steps.

    1. Right-click on any PNG file and click on Properties

    2. Click on the 'Change' button present near 'Opens with' (as highlighted in the screenshot)

    3. From the list of apps, choose 'Photoshop Elements 2018 Editor' and click OK

    Thanks,

    Medha

    Nothing Is working!

Under default Apps, Apps by file type, Properties of individual image files (.jpg , .jpeg , .tiff , .png , etc) I get the following options:

PHOTOS – recommended by win 10

    Libre Office Draw

    Paint

    Paint 3D

    Photoshop Essential 2018

    Sketchbook

    Look for App in store

All of them, except Photoshop Essential 2018, can be selected for the default app and saved, and interchanged with any other app.

When I select Photoshop Essential 2018, it pauses for a couple of seconds, and then goes back to the starting point.

I have tried to select, save, apply and repeat multiple times. I have uninstalled the program, emptied the recycle bin, run cc cleaner, turned off the computer, let it sit for 20 minutes, and rebooted the computer. I still have the same options for default apps. The problem continues.

    What are my next options?

    Help.

I'm unable to reproduce the issue at my end. Could you please share more details about your system?

For this, please navigate to Help > System Info and copy paste the first set of details before the list of installed components commences. (Please refrain from sharing your serial number here).

    Thanks,

    Medha
