Problem with Places Tag in PE14

I understand that Adobe is trying to fix the problem with Google maps not displaying when you try to make a places tag. However, I don't care about linking my tag to the map. Is there a way to simply add a Places tag? This was never an issue before the map function came along.

If you don't need the map, just do it the way it was done before geotagging was introduced. Simply ignore the present 'places' tab and category. Create a "MyPlaces" or such custom category under the 'media' main category and create your own places tags, with your own subcategories (MyPlaces >> Europe >> France >> Paris hierarchy, then the places keywords: Montmartre,  Champs Elysees,...)

The advantage is that you can create your own hierarchy and modify it at will without being restricted to the hierarchy in Google Maps.

If you can select your places without seeing the map, you can select places and assign your new tags. You can start with new photos and progressively tag your older files.

Makes sense. Thank you. However, it would have been nice to have all my places in one place!

The problem with the Google geotagging solution is that it is not as flexible as the 'custom' organization/hoerarcy you are free to create with standard tags and categories. Geotagging is not so important for me, so I have totally skipped that feature (even though it's handy with my smartphone photos).

May I suggest to download the PSE15 trial version which does not suffer from that resent Google issue. You may use it freely  for 30 days, and it's possible a new PSE16 version will be available soon after that. You'll see if Adobe can offer a workaround for older versions or you can pay the update to the future version when it's available.
