Problems installing Elements 9 on Windows 11

I tried installing an old copy of Photoshop Elements 9 on my new Dell (Windows 11). Once done I was prompted to restart, but I was then unable to reboot and couldn't get past the Dell logo

Having found similar posts on here I see I'm not the only one to have this problem.

After several hours of troubleshooting I was able to regain access by reverting to the last repair point.

Elements is now there in my apps, but when I try to open it just crashes. When I try and go through the uninstall process I get the message "this action is only valid for products that are currently installed". I've tried running Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool, but that doesn't seem to have helped.

I'm not really sure what to try next so would appreciate any guidance!

Also, I know I should probably consider an upgrade, but is it possible to get Elements 9 working on Windows 11?

@detectivejohnson what do you mean old files are lost?

If you follow the correct procedures to upgrade your catalog, nothing will be lost except from some .pse files that use features no longer used, such as the slideshow feature which has been totally upgraded.

Here is an Adobe HelpX article about how to move your catalog to a new computer.

Try running the program in compatibility mode.

  • Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 9.0
  • Right-Click on the PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe file
  • Select Properties
  • Select the Compatibility tab
  • Check the Run this program in compatibility mode box
  • Select Windows 7 from the Dropdown menu

Elements 9 is now about 15 years old.  You might want to think about purchasing a newer version for your new computer.  There have been many new features and improvements in that period.

Thanks for the advice.

I've just tried this but Elements still crashes. I'm guessing the install may have been corrupted?

Have tried uninstalling in safemode but this has also been unsuccessful.

It was suggested elsewhere that I try Revo Uninstaller, and this appears to have done the job.

TBH I'm reluctant to try reinstalling again, I may have to bite the bullet and get the latest version.
