Problems with PSE 7.0 installed on new computer running Windows 10

I installed my old version of PSE 7.0 on my new computer running Windows 10. Did the update patch. It was working fine for editing photos, but rather than editing a whole batch (like 50 photos) and then save them, I have do do small batches of 10. Even then, eventually the edited photos will not 'Save.'  I hit 'Save As' and nothing happens...no new windows open. I then have to shut down the entire program and lose my work - and then start over again. (I learned not to edit 50 photos at a time the hard way!) Just recently the entire program got 'stuck' and I couldn't close it. Had to shut down and restart the computer. As I continue editing, often the icons won't come up in the folder that I'm editing from either. It's like the program doesn't recognize that there is plenty of space on this computer. Once got a message that something couldn't be done because there was not enough RAM, which makes no sense either.

I saw another post about other programs interfering with PSE 7.0 and causing it to not work properly. Someone mentioned a Logitech mouse. Rather than use the wireless mouse that came with the computer, I hooked up my old Logitech tracking ball mouse (not wireless) - but never installed the software for it (which would be ancient.) Could this be causing the problem? I guess one way to find out is disconnect the tracking ball and see if everything works using the wireless mouse.

Frustrating....what should take me a few minutes ends up taking forever. Any thoughts out there? I appreciate any help. I am not a computer geek.

An idea that MAY work to install and/or run old programs in Windows 10... works for some, not for others

-RIGHT click the program icon or EXE and select a compatibility mode in the pop up option window

-or Run as Administrator http://forums.adobe.com/thread/969395 to assign FULL Windows permissions may help... says Encore, but sometimes required for ALL Adobe programs (this is NOT the same as using an Administrator account)

    -or more on permissions https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2293598

NOTE - Win10 anniversary update version 1607 has caused MAJOR problems with old programs, so the above may not work

    -Notice http://www.computerworld.com/article/3157369/windows-pcs/new-windows-10-build-is-a-monster-update.html

Owners of old programs simply have problems with Windows 10... none of which is Adobe's fault... Adobe did not change your old program to make it stop working... Microsoft changed their operating system and THAT is why your old program won't work, not because of anything Adobe did... Also... every time Microsoft issues a Win10 update, there is the risk that an old program that HAS been working after the initial Win10 upgrade will STOP working... bottom line, old programs require a matching old operating system

Thanks!  What you say about the old programs makes sense. I will try what you suggested, as well as trying to use the program without my old tracking ball. The path of least resistance for me may be to cough up the dough for the latest PSE. I am a senior (65) and resistant to spending more money!
