Question

Processing GX85 Raw photos in Elements

Hi

I'm new to photography and this time last year I purchased Elements 14 and a new Panasonic GX85 at the same time. After a year learning I am ready to start looking at processing RAW images. BUt, I can't seem to get the files to open in Elements 14. I looked up what to do and updated the 'add on' - 'Adobe RAW Camera'. And still no joy. So how can I buy the latest software for a camera that is available and not be able to update Elements to deal with these RAW images?  That is just crazy. If I subsequently bought a new model camera I could understand it.

Have I made an error and surely I should be able to access the correct add-on for this camera. I cannot afford to spend more money on newer software editions.

Many thanks.

    Cameras supported by Camera Raw

Camera Raw plug-in and Adobe application compatibility

The GX85 is supported in Camera Raw 9.6 and later which is only compatible with Elements 15. Not 14.

So you'll never be able to open those Raw files in version 14.

    Options:

    1. Pay to upgrade to Elements 15 and edit Raw files, or
    2. Download the free Adobe DNG converter. Batch convert folders of Raw files to DNG format then edit the DNG files (not the Raw files) in Elements 14. An extra step for you but no extra cost.

    Thanks for the quick response.

That is a very disappointing situation though, I feel it very unfair to have bought the latest software (at the time) and to now find it is not fit for purpose on a camera that had been launched (and for a few months) at the time. I can understand it taking some time to get updated but to never update...  that seems a little unfair. I assume I have no avenue of recourse...??
