The Elements organizer is based on a catalog. The catalog keeps links to the real location of the image files on your computer (where you have imported them in your drives). It does not contain any image file.

If the files appear as 'missing' or 'disconnected' with a question mark on the icons in the organizer browser, that means that the files can no longer be found in the original location.

Most often, it's because you have moved, deleted or renamed files outside of the organizer.

It can also be because you are presently in a different catalog. The menu File >> manage catalogs should show you if you have several catalogs.

Thank you Michel.  It did get disconnected.  I redirected it to the correct location.  However, the keys were not attached to photos.  Can they can be reconnected.  Also can you tell me where the data is stored?

Again, I appreciate your help.  I am old and have many photos.  :-)

Did you use the 'reconnect' command?

Photoshop Elements (PSE) knowledge base.

That command should restore the links while keeping all your tags, captions etc already in your catalog.

If, instead, you have reimported the files from the correct location, you have not recovered those tags and captions. That's because they are stored in the catalog (a folder containing a database), not in the files themselves. That's how that works by default, but you can decide to 'write metadata to files' from the File menu. Then the tags and captions are written in the files themselves and are recovered when you import.

Also can you tell me where the data is stored?

The photo files are on your drives:

- if you did use the downloader of the organizer, they are in the default picture location, generally under 'My Pictures', but you can set the preferences (menu Edit) to choose any other master folder.

- If the files were already on your drives (import from Internet, copy from CD/DVD or other media...) they are are still there.

If you mean the location of the catalog, its location is shown in the menu Help >> System Information. By default it's a hidden folder and you need to set your Explorer or Finder to show hidden files and folders.
