Ps Elements 2023 not showing text effects (need drop shadow)

Just bought Photoshop Elements 2023. None of the text effects are available. Unchecking the box at Preferences > Performance > Use Grphic Processor ... didn't work. Did a reboot of machine (Mac) -- that didn't help either. There is no "fx" on a text layer showing. Is this a bug in 2023 that needs fixing?

Make sure you're in expert mode.   Provide a screenshot of the entire program, if my post doesn't help

Ah, thank you! Now I get it. 

 

I've been using Photoshop CS5 for several years (stopped working since updating to Mojave) so this is a learning curve. Don't really need all the bells and whistles of full Photoshop so thought I'd try Elements. Kind of sad CMYK isn't available.
