In Expert mode-trying to do noise reduction and a pop-up says "Could not complete the Reduce Noise command because no pixels were selected." How do I fix this? Also, in Unsharp Mask the pop-up came up with the sliders however in the Preview box all I got was the "checkerboard" from the layer-not part of my image. The Preview box was checked, I also unchecked it to see if the made a difference-it did not. How do I fix this?

You sure that in the layers panel an layer with pixels is active and not a blank layer?

Thank you for replying. Though I've had PSE12 for awhile, I am just starting to try to learn it. I am taking a RAW photo from the organizer, to Camera Raw. I made a few adjustments there, then opened the image. I duplicated the background layer and then opened a new layer. This is where I tried the reduce noise and got that pop-up that said it couldn't complete no pixels had been selected. What do I need to do?

It sounds like from your description you duplicated the background layer (the raw file you opened) but then added a new layer, which i suspect means it's a blank layer or in other words the new layer doesn't have anything in it.

Instead of adding a new layer, try running the Reduce Noise or any other filter on the duplicated layer.
