PSE 13 using an external hard drive - moving to new system

Hello:

I have a rather large catalog of photos on PSE 13 and just invested in a new system.   The photos are all on an external hard drive, on drive F on the old Win 7 computer.   Plug and play on the new Win 10 device, but now it is drive J.     It appears that backing up the catalog and restoring attempts to actually move all the photos.   Dont need that.    Is there a way just to update the new PSE 13 software so that it already knows I have the photos?    I suspect going from F to J on my book could present some issues.   My restore has now filled my external drive and then the restore says it failed.

Simply assign the original drive letter of your external drive (F).

If another device is already assigned to F, change its letter first.

How To Change a Drive Letter (Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, XP)

If the original catalog folder was already in the external drive, you have nothing else to do.

If it was in 'default' location on your C: drive, you'll have to do an explorer search to find it on your original computer. That folder contains a file named 'catalog.pse13db'. Copy the whole folder to the new computer either in default location or to the external drive.

You don't need to do a backup/restore if your image files library is on the external drive.

Thanks for the assist Michel.      I suspected there was a way, but those kinds of changes are not my expertise.   I will give all of this a shot one I clean up the external drive of all the duplicate files and copy over the catalog along with changing my card readers to other drive letters and getting my external drive back to F where it was prior.       Thanks again.
