PSE 15: Recently opened files problem: remedy

The Open Recently Edited Files list will not update any longer after reaching 100. This is a well known problem.

The workaround is easy:

Step 1: Open c:\Users\your name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\15.0\Editor\*.*

Step 2: Delete the files „Adobe Photoshop Elements 15 Prefs.psp“ and „MachinePrefs.psp“

Step 3: Create a subfolder „Old prefs“

Step 4: Restart PSE 15, open an image file, and apply all your preferred settings

Step 5: Close PSE 15 and open again the Editor folder (see Step 1)

Step 6: Copy the newly created two files „***Prefs.psp“ (see Step 2) into the subfolder „Old prefs“

That's all.

If now your list Recently Edited Files will again stop updating after 100 files:

Open the Editor folder (see Step1) and copy the two files from the subfolder „Old prefs“ into the Editor folder

You now can continue with a resetted Recently Edited Files list. This procedure looks more complicated than it really is. After the second time it's very easy.

Remark: This PSE 15 bug has been mentioned several times before and the remedy has been suggested as well. This post is intended to supply a solution without scrolling through - partly - lengthy discussions.

    Andreas,

I think it's a good idea to make that workaround simpler to find in the forum.

I'd like to know what you think about another 'workaround' with Windows (Win 10 for me).

When I have my task bar displayed, I right click on the Photoshopelements tab which displays the 12 last opened files; I right click on any of those to 'open' the selected file. In a way, Windows provides part of the list that Elements 15 is no longer able to show.

Michel, I'm using Windows 8.1 where right-clicking on the Elements tab in the task bar opens only the single image from which the Elements window was reduced to the task bar.

May be I did not understand your question correctly?

It's probably different in Windows 10:

This is what I get with the right click on the Elements tab of the task bar:

A right click (not a left click) on an of the 12 files of the list opens that files.

Note: only files opened from the editor, not from the organizer, are shown in the list.
