When I look at creating a photobook or other creation, the only options I have are to print local.  Are there no options to publish to shutterfly or some other web based site that offers services you can purchase?  I know the workaround would be to put the pics i want in an album and manually upload them.

There is no other solution I know of.

The sad truth is that many users like you would like different applications to 'talk together'  automatically. This is something old computer users are reluctant to allow; it's the best way to compromise your safety and privacy. We prefer to distinguish data (images, text, spreadsheats, databases etc) from the softwares which can manage and edit those data. If you don't believe about the danger, software and service providers are increasingly trying to protect you by limiting the interchange of info between softwares. Not only Shutterfly, but Facebook and many others.
