PSE 2020 very slow on my iMac

Hello, I am new to this forum and I have followwing annoying problem.

I am running PSE 2020 on my Mac-Catalina latest version, with a catalog of about 23000 photo's which are stored in folders per month which inturn are stored in folders per year.

But by times it is very, very slow For instance deleting 1 or more pictures from my catalog after modifying incl. the original. takes about 1/2 a minute.

How can I improve/resolve?
