I have been having trouble importing media into PSE 2020 from my Iphone. Long, long time PSE user. This issue seems to have started wiht PSE20; for sure it has been an issue for at least a year.

Some few photos do import, but not consistent. Import screen shows photos to be uploaded, but then errors out, files could not be obtained. I tried to attach a screen shot but it errored out.

Computer:

Dell xps 13 9310 (new, but thie issue occurred with my old computer also)

Windows 11, 16 GB Memory

Iphone 13 (Issue also occurred with Iphone 10)

Any suggestions? PSE not useful if it will not upload photos. Thanks

Is it possible that the photo you are trying to import comes from a file that has been downloaded to your iPhone from another app. like WhatsApp?  Sometimes, those files are not in a standard jpeg format and cannot be recognized by Elements.  In the dialog that appears as part of your screenshot, scroll to the right to see the path and file name of the problem file.  See if you can open it in the Elements Editor.  If you can, save it and use the choice to save in Organizer.  The file should be fixed and will appear in the Organizer.  If that doesn't work, open the file in the Microsoft Photos app and save it as a jpeg.  You should now be able to import the file into the Organizer via Import>From Files and FoldersAdded: It's also possible that the imported file was corrupt or incomplete because of the import problem.

If you are able to import the files from your phone via Microsoft Photos or even copying via Windows File Explorer, you can then import all of the files into the Organizer via Import>From Files and Folders.

Thank you for the response. I can do the workaround that you suggest, but PSE should be able to import directly, right?

This is a frustrating problem that I believe belongs to Apple since it not only occurs with PSE but also other import programs such as the Microsoft Photos app.  My solution (which generally works) is to set your iPhone>Settings>Photos>Transfer to Mac or PC to Automatic rather than Keep Originals.  Also make sure that you have the latest iOS update on your iPhone.

If that doesn't work for you, please give us a screenshot of the error message.

Here are the screen shots of the messages I receive. My IPhone is on "Automatic". Also I can import into Microsoft Photos, so not sure this is an Apple problem??
