PSE 2021: how to get rid of gray area behind images in the work area

Ran into the same issue when I installed PSE 2018 and now I can't remember how to fix this! I want the gray "frame" around the images in the work space to auto-size with the image size, if that makes sense to you. I don't know how else to describe it. In other words, when I change the image size on-screen using Ctrl and - or Ctrl and +, I don't want to see a gray, fixed size background to the image.

I'd greatly appreciate if someone can refresh my mind on this.

Hi Frans,

- Go to Edit > Preferences > General

- Click the checkbox to Allow Floating documents in Expert Mode

- Change over to Expert Mode if you're not already in that mode

- Open an image if you've not already got one open

- In the Taskbar click the Layout button and choose All Floating

- Select the Zoom Tool in the Toolbox

- In the Tool Options for the Zoom Tool click the checkbox to Resize Windows to Fit

Hope that helps 🙂

Oops, found it: Tools area, Zoom Tool, Tool Options, check Size Windows to Fit.
