PSE 2021 photo editor not opening

I have PSE 2021 bought via download and never had a DVD. I recently put it on a new computer (Windows 11) using my serial number. I want to brighten some faded old photos before putting them in the video editor. The organizer and the video editor will open but for the photo editor it says to insert DVD or download a trial.  I don't see any way to use the serial number for this. Any thoughts? Or other ways to brighten a photo? Thank you!

    It sounds like you have only installed Premiere Elements (PRE) on the new computer and not Photoshop Elements (PSE).  They are separate programs and both need to be installed.  If you only purchased PRE, you will not have a serial number for PSE.

     

    If you purchased and have previously registered both programs, you will find a download link (and the serial number) for PSE on the Products page of your Adobe.com account.

     

    If you only have PRE, you can make adjustments to the video (slideshow images), using the FX tab in PRE to apply various adjustments.

    I forgot that you are using different versions of Elements for PRE and PSE.  In that case, you can click and drag the photos displayed in Album Order and send them from the Organizer to PRE.  I believe they will remain in the sorted order when placed on the PRE timeline. 

    You can also make sure that the photos you edit in PSE 2016 are saved to a location that you can make as a Watched Folder in PRE 2021's Organizer.  (They are different programs.)  Once you import the photos into the PRE Organizer, you can place and sort them in an Album there, and send the files to PRE.

    Although it is possible to make some adjustments to your photos in Premiere Elements, I recommend that you do all of your editing in Photoshop Elements and save the edited files to the Organizer.  When I have this kind of project, I also place the photos in an Organizer Album.  That allows me to put the photos in a desired order.  The photos can then be sorted in Album Order and sent to Premiere Elements to create the video slideshow. 

     

    Depending on how you intend to present the video, you might also want to consider cropping the photos to 16x9 aspect ratio which avoids black bars on the side if you are creating an HD video for viewing on a TV.

      The older PSE should install OK.  Just be aware that it will use a different Organizer than the newer PRE program and you will not be able to use the Organizer associated with one program to send photos to the other (but you can click and drag from the Organizer to the other program).

      Thank you for your help, Greg! Now I have both PSE and PE installed. My project is to put together a slide show/video for a memorial service. To check my memory of PSE/PE since it's been a couple of years: Do I need to edit the still photos (crop/brighten) on PSE and then upload those photos to PE to create the video? Or does PE also have the editing capacity?

      Thank you Greg, that explains it! I went and looked and I did only install Premier Elements. My PSE was older, 2016. I'll see if that will still install.
