PSE 2024 on macOS 14.2.1 Sonoma

Having just downloaded PSE 24 I have been trying the Editor tools.  The Recompose button works once but after use, the brush tools grey-out  and cannot be used.  They recover after closing Editor and re-opening.  The other tools seem to be working OK.  Any solutions?

    I believe that's been an issue since photoshop elements 2022.

    Yes i see that with pse 2024 on macOS Ventura 13.6.3
