PSE 2025: "Could not complete your request because of a program error."

Question

I've been using Photoshop Elements 2025 quite a bit to edit pictures from a recent trip.
Today, I logged in, clicked on edit and got a message "Could not complete your request because of a program error." After logging out and then in several times with no success, I deleted and then reinstalled the app. Same problem occurred again. Any idea how I can fix this and start using my app again?

Can you be more specific about when the error appears.

Are you able to open the Editor?

Are you able to open a photo in the Editor? If so, what is the exact command you are trying to perform before the message appears?

Does the problem appear with more than one file?

If you are able to launch the Editor, try resetting the preferences file. Go to the Edit>Preferences>General tab and click the Reset Preferences on next launch button.
