Question

PSE 2026 constantly crashes when creating a collage with more than six (6) images. This happens after working on a collage for about 20 minutes and becomes very frustrating

Using a canvas (1920x1060) to create a collage with six (6) images, PSE 2026 constantly crashes. This never happened with any of the older version of PSE and I’ve using PSE for over 15 years. This is the worse version of PSE I’ve ever used it seem with all this AI stuff added the program is less responsive and freezes a lot. Available RAM: 24960, Ideal Range: 13728-17971, PSE Using 20966. I can be contacted at - (personal information removed by moderator)

Collages are limited to 8 images- using just the templates found under the create tab.

I often create my own templates from 10-35 images just to play around with- with zero issues.

I also use various templates (all designed for photoshop) generally without any issues, any version of pse from 2014 to the most recent version.

Put some shapes on a canvas, make clipping masks for each shape--- add your images it’s a bit time consuming but produces better results.

Any number of things can cause the program to stop responding:   custom installed content- often in the wrong location.    Having installation files in the preset folder.   Turning off background processes because a user “knows his way around computers” and thinks those background processes aren’t needed, when in fact they are.

Ginormous images:   I’ve done some testing with giant images- say around 2 GB for one image- the programs slows down a bit, a little bit.   lmage size for the average user really isn’t of any concern.  I also have one psd file with 345 layers--- zero issues with performance.

Attach the file (using the paper clip) and see what others can do with it (the psd file containing all the collage parts)-  if it’s too big- upload it to drop box of some other file sharing website, and share that link to that file.

If others have the same issue using the same psd file then it’s probably the psd file which is the problem- not the program.

I do do agree , this Element 26 does NOT work properly. You correct 15 pictures, takes a lot of time and when you want to save your job , PE 26 gets frozen and all is lost , because program closes by itself . It happens every day. I do do do regret my old PE 14. Inacceptable !! I got crazy !! i wonder what Adobe will say, comment or reimburse ????

Sam, have you tried turning off Use OpenCL and GPU Compositing in: Edit → Preferences → Performance → Advanced Settings to see if that helps?  BTW, none of us are Adobe employees.

If only we could see with our eyes why 99jon isn’t having the same trouble right?  It’s probably just one of a dozen possible things that play a critical role.  Yes, frustrating.  If you haven’t already done so, I’d head over to AI to see what that can come up with.

What exactly happens when the program “constantly crashes”?

Have you manually added anything, plug-ins, brushes, swatches, anything?

    TRY THIS:

HOLD DOW NYOUR LEFT SAHSIFT KEY THEN Click on the icon that starts the editor, Answer yes when prompted.   See if that makes any difference.

I’m not seeing a problem on W11. Are you creating a collage manually using the menu:

File > Place after importing the first image from the context bar?

Try checking Preferences  > Performance and advanced settings - see image

Thank you for your response. But I had submitted another post showing those things you are presenting and they are:

    Available Ram: 24960;  Ideal Range: 13727 - 17971; PSE Use: 20966 (883%)

The rest is the same as yours and it’s still crashing. I’ve run all my anti-virus and diagnostic and my system is healthy.

It’s also starting to leave yellow marching ants from where I moved images.

Again thank you for your response but it did not improve anything. 😟
