Question

PSE 2026 Movement of Layer 1 image over Background Layer

I use PSE2026 for comparing actual images with standard images which worked really well when using PSE2011 but I am having annoying problems when doing this in PSE 26.

Depending on the amount of magnification applied, this dictates the minimum number of Pixels that Layer 1 will move over the background layer.

100% Magnification - 10 Px

200% Magnification - 5 Px

300% Magnification - 4Px

400% Magnification - 3 Px

500% - 800% Magnification - 2 Px

1200% and above Magnification - 1 Px

Why can’t the Pixel movement be 1 Pixel regardless of the magnification. Pixel movements of 3 and above it makes it difficult to align Layer 1 images on the background. If you magnify the image to 1200% you can’t see the whole image!

Additionally, when altering the size of the layer 1 images using the Move function the X and Y axes move together. If you uncheck the ‘Constrain Proportions’ box you can move the X and Y axes independantly. However when you click ‘Done’, Constrain Proportions becomes active again. Constrain Proportions should be made a menu setting so you only have to select it once when you wish to use it multiple times.

Interestingly when altering the size of images with Constrain Proportions Unchecked, the Pixel movement is 1 Px at 100% Magnification and above. This is what is required the ‘Move’ function.

Hoping you can help with my requests.

Screenshots really would help describe what you are having difficulty with.

    Hi Glenn

    Thanks for your reply.

I have spoken at lenght with the help desk and been told that this is how the software works and it would require a modification and upgrade to the programme software to fix it.

I can’t get a screen shot of what I am to illustrate but the problem is one of aligning the layer 1 image EXACTLY with the background layer. The layer 1 images does not move smoothly across the background, at 100% magnification the layer 1 images moves 10 pixels at a time, which, unless you are very lucky, means you cannot get them to align. If you use 1200% magnification the layer 1 images moves 1 pixel at a time, so this gives you the best alignment you will get.

It is a problem that can we worked around, but it is time consuming and frustrating and my previous old PSE 2011 was much more user friendly.

BLUF (BOTTOM LINE UP FRONT):  I think you are holding down a shift key while moving things around

I’ve tried a couple of things this morning:  I can’t get it to move as you describe in different  zoom levels:  for me it’s always 1 pixel movement with each press of my arrow keys on my keyboard.

If you hold down your shift key:  It will move 10 pixels- don’t hold down your shift key it will move 1 pixel.

My results are the same, at all magnifications:  1 pixel movement using the arrows keys AND NOT PRESSING AND HOLDING A SHIFT KEY WHILE DOING THAT.

I drew a white line using a brush- and made it level:  press and hold a shift key while using a brush and it moves in a straight line.

I also drew a square (Again hold the left shift key to make it square):   Regardless of the zoom factor (even up to the max of 3200) I still only got 1 pixel of movement.
