Question

PSE 3.0 application gone - is my priceless catalogue of photos forever lost

I bought PSE 3 and organized all my photos using the PS catalogue and tagging etc.  THe hard drive on my computer was failing so Apple store transferred all my data onto a new hard drive. But they told me I would need to reinstall non-Apple Software.

Crucial question is this -  in pre Cloud days (5 years ago), were all my photos stored on my hard drive and simply accessible through the PSE? If so, shouldn't all my photos still be on the hard drive? Can I get the catalogue back - i.e. all the photos as they were organized into albums, tagged by people, events etc.

I found my PSE DVD and it says it is for Windows - even though it was working on Mac.  Since the product is discontinued, is there any way to get the catalogue back on my Mac?

Even if I cannot get the look and feel of the catalogue back, shouldn't ever photo still be on the harddrive? Very worried. Please help.

I don't mean to contradict what you've written, but pse 3 on the mac side did not come with the organizer, but included the File Browser

which didn't include much in the way of organizing like the photoshop elements organizer in later versions does.

On the mac side photoshop elements 9 thru 15 and 2018 include the Organizer.

What version of mac os x are you using?

Anyway, your photos are stored on your hard drive usually somewhere in /Users/User Name/Pictures and the organizer just catalogs or creates links to the files.

There might be a chance apple transferred the organizer catalog over and then you would know what version of photoshop elements you had.

    Look in

    /Users/User Name/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Elements Organizer/Catalogs

Or login to your adobe account and see what version is registered:
