PSE bitmap issue

I have used PSE (Photoshop Elements) over many years for reconfiguring music for large pages.  I have used the bitmap function in PSE to condense the resulting pdf files.  The last PSE version that actually successfully condensed a pdf file was PSE10 - typically a factor of almost 10x reduction in size.  I was hoping that Adobe would sustain this feature of bitmap in later versions, but once again, PDE 2025 does not condense pdf files, in some cases the bitmap function actually increases the pdf file size!.  Can someone at Adobe look into this "loss of function" of bitmap in the PSE package since PSE10?

I am attaching the original fine (filea) and subsequent PSE10 and PSE25 bitmap files.

After some trying several versions of PSE including 8, 10, 2025 and 2026, it seems that with PSE 2026 i'm getting around the same size (slightly higher at 257 KB) that your getting with PSE 10 using Diffusion Dither for the Bitmap setting and Compression as None in the PDF saving settings.

Another option you have in PSE 2025 is to use Zip compression in the PDF saving settings.

Glenn perhaps you could verify the same in your version of PSE 2026?

In PSE 10 what settings are you using when converting to Bitmap and the settings when saving as a PDF?

The quality from pse 10 to pse 25 appears the same.   the pse 10 version is only 208 KB and the pse 2025 version is 1421Kb.

The difference is size is due to simply more options/features in the PDF format, given that 10 years of development
It is not a "loss of function" it is an increase of fuction, and options.

The following is a 100% A.I. response:

Adobe PDF files are larger now primarily because of larger, high-resolution images, embedding more fonts, and advanced features like sanitization or comments being included. High-resolution images are a major factor, especially with modern screens requiring more pixels, and embedding fonts adds to the file size. Additionally, features that add metadata or layers, like comments, redactions, or sanitizing, increase the file size.

Reasons for increased PDF size
  • High-resolution images
Modern devices have high-resolution screens, leading to PDFs with more pixels per inch, which increases file size. Using images with high bit-depth and resolution can significantly increase the overall file size.

  • Embedded fonts
When fonts are embedded in a PDF, especially with each new document, it can substantially increase the file size. This is necessary to ensure the document looks consistent across different devices and operating systems.

  • Advanced features:
    • Sanitization and redactionRemoving information in a PDF, such as by sanitizing or redacting, can increase the file size by default, as it may involve rasterizing content and removing overlapping data.

    • Comments and metadataAdding comments, form fields, and other metadata can increase the overall size of the PDF.

    • Complex vector graphicsComplex vector graphics can sometimes be large, and the default option in some PDF creation tools is to rasterize them, which increases the file size.
