PSE elements 8 - failed restore - "upgrade to the latest available firrmware for your disc drive"

Question

This error message appears when i try to restore the catalog despite having done this successfully from the same external drive before, and there is no firmware upgrade for the drive. I have all the photos restored but without a catalog. Moving the backup to a different drive still results in the same error message. Old backups I have restored successfully before also produce the same error message now. I have also tried reinstalling the PSE elemsnts 8 program.

What can I try to circumvent or correct this. Any ideas??

Hi Nigel,

It might be something to do with the user account that you are using.

I found the same error mentioned in this Adobe Knowledge Base article (see the third bullet point):

User Accounts

The article deals with moving catalogs rather than restoring them, but it might be relevant to your issue.
