PSE - Moving photos to different drive
I have Photoshop Elements 2023. I run Windows 10. I want to move all my photos from my d: drive, a disc drive on my PC, to my h: drive, a disc drive on a networked NAS. I will leave the catalog at its current location on the c: drive. I made a backup of all photo folders and the catalog.
So that the catalog and PSE isn’t corrupted, in PSE Organizer I dragged folders from my d: drive to my h: drive. For the most part this went fine. Because I couldn’t find a means to move multiple folders at a time, I moved each folder one at a time. PSE can see the photos on the h: drive. I successfully moved 80 folders. Several of htem have subfolders.
I ran into a problem with 4 folders, 3 of which have subfolders. When I tried to drag these folders from the d: drive to the h: drive, a window displayed saying something about “media analysis.” As I recall, I clicked “OK” since there was only 1 button available. I proceeded to move another folder.
After moving all folders, the 4 folders needing media analysis remained in the d: drive. When I tried moving one of them from the d: drive to the h: drive, I got a message that this couldn’t be done because the target folders already exist. Some of the target folders and their subfolders are displayed in Organizer on the h: drive. Some of the target folders are NOT displayed in Organizer, but I can see them at the target location with Windows Explorer. If I try to import the folder shown in Explorer and not shown in Organizer, it goes through the importing process and then reports that some or none of the media were imported and many or all of the media were skipped becaue they are already in the catalog. Organizer then tries to reconnect missing files. The folder on the h: drive then appears in Organizer showing some but not all of the photos formerly in the folder on the d: drive. Some folders now appear to be missing from both the d: drive and the h: drive.
How can I make sure that all folders are on the h: drive and that all photos formerly on the d: drive are in the appropriate folders on the h: drive?
Is this messed up such that I should overwrite the catalog and photo folders with the backup, and start again using some other method?
Thanks.
