PSE2018 - Badly Flawed - Done Using It
Running on Win10 Pro 64bit - v 1803 and latest updates.
I have over many years fairly successfully used PSE5 and PSE12. I got PSE2018 and find it badly flawed - so much so that I'm done trying to use it. I have searched the forum and see that many others have the same issues that I have and no one is getting useful help. I have tried various fixes without success. So I'm done and will continue on with PSE12. I bought PSE2018 via Amazon so I'm pretty sure I can not get a refund. I guess that will not kill me.
Some issues:
It is not faster (as the marketing info says). Compared to PSE12 it is very slow to start up and clicking a tag to see the photos with that tag is very slow. I'm sure there are other situations too but I haven't been able to use the new version very much.
It will not play any videos. No errors - just a blank video player box.
It will not create a slideshow. The big slideshow box comes up and then PSE just hangs until I manually kill it via the task manager. No errors, just an app hang.
I tried playing a slideshow created in an earlier version. It said the slideshow must be converted to the new PSE and displayed the message with the only option being "OK". Well it's not OK and it's not proper to not have a cancel option. Just another example of bad human interface design. So I had to kill it with the task manager.
I was pretty much disappointed in the new version - both the organizer and editor. Other than having even more ways to share and interface with the likes of FaceBook, the underlying facilities are essentially the same as in earlier versions. And of course, there are fewer options to create projects (options disappear with every product update). I use the editor in expert mode and it seems to be almost the same editor as in PSE12. I can't see anything that makes the 2018 version more useful than the earlier versions.
In the editor, when you get done editing and save the photo and close the tab in the editor, it does not go back automatically to the organizer. Small point but just another thing that annoys.
I found one thing that works in PSE2018 but never really worked in PSE12. That is, the ability use email to send something. But setting gMail or Yahoo as the email client causes them to declare PSE an unsafe login app so you have to tell the email client to allow unsafe apps. You would think that Adobe would correct that situation by updating their login stuff.
So long to PSE2018 and hello to PSE12.
