PSE2024: Could not complete your request because the destination document cannot accept the layer

I have 2 graphics files (.psd), one of which has a background derived from a .jpg file, the other from a .tif file. In PSE2024 I have these arranged side-by-side via Window>Images>Tile. The .jpg-sourced file also has several layers comprising filled rectangles that act as backgrounds for separate text layers. If I attempt to drag any of these layers from the .jpg-sourced file to the .tif-sourced file, I get the message in the title.

What do I need to do to make the layers compatible with the .tif-sourced file? I need to have the text editable, and the rectangles re-sizable after dragging.

Thanks in advance,

Paul.

The most likely cause is the .tif-sourced file is 16 Bits/Channel for which Photoshop Elements provides little support for including layers.

With the the .tif-sourced file active go to Image>Mode and see if 8 Bits/Channel is available and if so click on it, then try to drag one of the layers from the .jpg-sourced file to the .tif-sourced file.

Correct answer, Jeff. I thank you. Selecting the 8-bit Mode option, I was able to drag the layers onto the image. In future, I'll save the .tif files as 8-bit.

Kind regards,

Paul.
