PSE25 Organizer: photos not connecting.

I have a lot of legacy photos on my Mac that were imported to PSE25 when I installed it. At first, they all displayed just fine. Then, after updating the operating system, they stopped loading. I get the Recopnnect Missing File screen but, when I do reconnect the file I get an error that the file already exists in the catalogue. 

At this point the photo is on my screen and I can expand it to full screen. However, if I try to edit the photo, I get a disk error message.

Photos imported since I updated the OS work just fine.

I have a Macbook Pro and am running Sequoia version 15.5. which is the latest version.

Any ideas on how I can repair the link to my photos/files? Right now I'm using PSE23 for my 'legacy' files where they display just fine and are editable. But this is a really clunky solution. I'd rather be doing everything under PSE25.
