Quick Selection Tool

For some reason, my Quick Selection Tool has changed to a horizontal bar, in lieu of a 'circle' method. Normally, it would be 'circular', with size based on pixel quantity but I must have done something that changed it's format. I use PSE 14 [because I have a 32 bit OS]. What did I do and how do I get it back to normal?

    Thanks for posting in Adobe forums.

    I understand you are facing issue with Quick Selection Tool.

    Could you please try the following steps:

    Firstly,

    - Open Photoshop Elements

    - Click "Edit"

    - Click "Preferences"

    - Click "General"

    - Click " Reset preferences on the next launch"

    - Re-open the program & test "Quick Selection Tool" again.

    Secondly,

    - Select "Quick Selection Tool" from the toolbox.

    - Click the  to open the menu in Tool Options.

    - Click "Reset Tool" or "Reset All Tools"

    - Restart Adobe Photoshop Elements & test "Quick Selection Tool" again.

      I am going to try this as I am having trouble as well.  For me the tool is going beyond the area I am selecting. It is going to the edge of the image. Hope I can fix it.

      This is an old thread and the issue discussed previously does not pertain.

      With the quick selection brush it is easy to go beyond the periphery of the intended object, as you have experienced. On the tool's option bar, there are 3 brush icons, one of which is designated to subtract from a selection. Activate this, then use the cursor to push in, in order to subtract.

      You should also see a "Refine Edge" option, which when activated allows one to smooth, feather, expand/contract.
