Quick Selection tool...marching ants

Thanks for posting in Adobe forums.

I understand you are facing issue with Quick Selection tool in Adobe Photoshop Elements.

Could you please try the following steps:

Firstly,

- Open Photoshop Elements

- Click "Edit"

- Click "Preferences"

- Click "General"

- Click " Reset preferences on the next launch"

- Re-open the program & test "Quick Selection tool" again.

If this doesn't help you then secondly,

- Select "Quick Selection tool" from the toolbox.

- Click the   to open the menu in Tool Options.

- Click "Reset Tool" or "Reset All Tools" 

- Restart Adobe Photoshop Elements & test "Quick Selection tool" again.

Try resetting the tools and/or preferences:

Try resetting the tools and/or preferences first: At the far left of the Text tool options bar, there's a tiny triangle. Click it and choose Reset Tool from the popout menu. Go to C:\Program Files \Adobe\Photoshop Elements 10 and launch "PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe"  . While launching press "Ctrl+Alt+Shift" and continue pressing it until you see the dialog box to delete the preference file.Press yes in the dialog box. Make sure as soon as you launch press the "Ctrl+Alt+Shift" . Another way to delete preferences is to close the PSE and go to C:\Users\<Your User Name>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\10.0\Editor (Win 7) and delete the "Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 Prefs.psp" file and then relaunch PSE.

Restore default preferences

Preference settings control how Photoshop Elements Editor displays images, cursors, and transparencies, saves files, uses plug‑ins and scratch disks, and so on. If the application exhibits unexpected behavior, the preferences file could be damaged. You can restore all preferences to their defaults. Note: Deleting the preferences file is an action that cannot be undone. Do one of the following: Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Mac: Option+Command+Shift) immediately after Photoshop Elements begins launching. Click Yes to delete the Adobe Photoshop Elements settings file. Go to Edit > Preferences (Mac: Photoshop Elements > Preferences > General), click the Reset Preferences on next launch button, and then click OK. When you restart Adobe Photoshop Elements, all preferences are reset to default settings. A new preferences file is created the next time you start Photoshop Elements Editor. For information on a specific preference option, search for the preference name in Help.
