    ACR9.8 i only available for PSE15.

You can batch convert a whole folder of raw images into Adobe raw (DNG) and the dng files will be backward compatible with your software.

Thanks for your help. Very disappointing that this raw file cant be used in PSE14. I've only just put this on my computer because I bought a Canon D5 mark 4 DSLR. So now need to spend more and update my PS again. Beginning to look like I will just use Canons DPP programme Adobe is driving me away after all these years of using. Never mind its the sign of the times and I'm over it.

Again many thanks for your quick reply most grateful.

What's disappointing is that you don't understand that Canon is the only one to blame, beside yourself...

Any new camera model comes with its own raw format that no converter from any editor can understand. Some camera makers are smarter (or less 'proprietary') than Canon and others. They use natively the DNG raw format instead of their specific new format for each new model.

Adobe and others have to get a hand to a real, final model to create a converting tool. That takes some time. Instead of rewriting all of the 15 versions of Elements, Adobe uses ACR, a raw-converting module (a plugin) which can be updated rapidly after the new models from all camera makers are issued. The new versions of ACR must cover a dozen or so new cameras. The new ACR version can be compatible with recent Elements or Photoshop versions, but often, that would mean rewriting the Elements/Photoshop also to work with the plugin.

So, the universal and FREE solution is to use the DNGconverter.

Or... the Canon software. You have been trapped by Canon.

FAQ: Will Photoshop Elements work with my camera, or Why won't my raw files open?

By the way, you are not speaking to Adobe on this forum, only to other users. You can afford a top range DSLR and can't afford to upgrade the software?
