Question

Refine Edge not working

I installed 2022 version of Elements to my PC with Windows 10. Tried to refine edge as before with 2019-version. Not working.

If I make a selection with Lasso and then click Refine button, I get an adjustment window as before. But when I click OK, Elements goes back to Lasso tool and not to refine brush.

And if I after selection with Selection brush  choose Refine brush, it gives me refine circle, but when I try to refine edge with minus tool, it just cuts off part of my selection. No refining happens. (pic attached)

Tried to Reset tool, installed Elements again, reset parameters, what else.

And my old 2019-version acts  same way. It worked before. 😞

@timokmaki asked: How do you refine edge after selecting with Lasso?

I suggest you use the Refine Selection brush rather than the Refine Edge dialog.  Take a look at this video tutorial.

I almost never use the Lasso Tool to make a selection.  IMO, there are much better selection tools to use.  For example, the tutorial uses the Quick Selection Brush to make the initial selection.  Based on the somewhat opaque example displayed in your OP, this would seem to be the appropriate tool for your workflow.

Thanks foe you reply. Apparently it is impossible to refine edge if selected wit lasso or polygon. 😞

I've seen that video and tried to do just as it shows. But the Push selection button doewsn't work right as I've said before. Didn't you watc my example pictire in the first message? Minus only cuts off pieces from  th epic, plöus expands tjhe selection. Only the DOT-option refines edge. I know, that's better than nothing but... 😞

Sorry, but I'm not understanding your problem.  Can you please give us a step-by-step recipe of what you are doing and exactly what happens when you do it.  I tried performing the steps described in your post as best I could.  As far as I can tell nothing has changed between Elements 2019 and 2022 and the workflow you describe for Elements 2022 is what I would expect to happen with the Lasso Tool and Refine Edge dialog.  After exiting the Refine Edge dialog by clicking OK, the active tool will be the one last used, which in your case is the Lasso Tool.

How do you refine edge after selecting with Lasso?

And my refine edge brush still cuts off pieces of my pic or expands selection made wits selection brush. Not refining edge. I posted an example before.

Did you have any luck finding this info anywhere. When I try to set up the tool by copying pixels to clone using the , I just get a moving circle. I tried to reset the refine edge brush but it changed nothing. Already regretting buying the upgrade. Thanks for letting me know if you found help.
