Question

Restore catalog from crashed computer - files backed up

My old computer with Elements v8 crashed (won't boot).

I purchased a new computer along with Elements 2019.

i was able to install the old disk drive into a slot in the new computer and can access  all the files.

I'm confused as to how to restore my photos and catalog as I'm not able to backup the catalog from the old computer.

I can import the files, but it doesn't have the events I have organized the photos with.

I suspect I need to copy over the catalog.psedb file.

Is this correct?  Any idea where i can find this?

Advice and input is appreciated.

Thanks,

John

    I found the catalog.pse8db file.

However, if i use the "manage catalogs" or "restore catalog" feature in Elements 2019, when i browse to the folder location, it doesn't see the file.  Wrong file type?

    Hi,

If you have been able to locate your catalog.pse8db file, it must be in a folder with the same name as your old catalog name. You would require whole of that folder, as all the files in that folder constitute your catalog. Any issue with the files in the catalog folder may give you unexpected errors.

Once you have located your catalog, please keep it on a location in your new computer

    1. Go to Files->Manage Catalogs

    2. Select 'Custom location', and browse to the location of your catalog.

    3. Click 'Convert'

    4. Your PSE 8 catalog would be displayed in the Convert catalog box.

    5. Select the catalog and click on Convert.

The catalog will open with the same name in Elements Organizer 2019.

Please let me know if this helps

    Thanks!
