Question

Restoring Photoshop Elements 2022

Having had Greg's help I now have all my photos and the catalog folder on my external d drive.

Rather than continue using my external hard drive, having bought a new laptop with a 1TB SSD I would like to go back to having my photos and catalog on my laptop new c drive.

Is the best way to back up the d drive and then restore to the c drive, and if so which folder in c?

Will this process move the actual photos themselves or just the Organiser catalog?

Thanks

Just to be clear, you should use the Elements backup/restore process to move the catalog and photos back to your new laptop's hard drive.  But I have to ask you why you want to do that?  IMO, it is better practice not to have your photo files on your system hard drive.  Although it is probably rare these days, a corruption of your system drive is more likely to lead to the loss of your media files.  If you plan to regularly backup both your catalog and media files to an external drive, I suppose it is OK to keep everything on your C drive.

As for which folder on your C drive to restore your photos, that may depend on the present structure of your external drive.  If you remind me of your situation, I will try to offer a suggestion.

Thanks Greg

I do plan to back up to external drives regularly. My C drive is brand new. I had in mind c:/user/nick/photos.

Thanks

Yes, the photos folder is as good a place as any.  But you have to be careful with the destination as it sometimes gives unexpected results.  If this happens, you can always move the parent folder to the correct location by using the My Folders panel in the Organizer.

@Nick_Baelz

I've moved your post from Using the Community to the Photoshop elements forum.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.
