Revise location of file folders

I'm using PSE 13 and I would like to revise the file folders that my catalogue is using to view and edit my photos. For example I believe that the catalogue is accessing all sub folders under the folder "Pictures" but I only want certain sub folders to be accessed.

    Michel,

Thanks for your response. I will certainly do that in the future. But how do I get rid of the sub folders that are being used by the catalogue at this time?

A "clean" and easy way is to create a new catalog from the catalog manager. You import your folders selectively. When you are ready, you can delete the other catalog, also from the menu File >> Manage catalogs. That does not change anything in your Pictures folder, only the catalog is deleted.

You can also delete files from catalog (delete the links) selectively from the folders panel in the left (from catalog, NOT from drive), but the problem is that there is no easy way to select a given folder with the contents of its subfolders. That generally takes a lot of time.

    Two notes:

1 - deleting a big numbe of files from the catalog may take a very long time. Best to delete smaller batches progressively.

2 - the workaround I have found to select all the files in a folder, including its subfolders is the following.

From the Explorer, rename the master folder.

You open the organizer and use the menu Find >> All missing files, then the Reconnect missing files command. From the dialog which displays the list of missing files, you have a small icon (horizontal bars) which provides a menu - to select all - to delete all from catalog.

3 - Don't forget to rename the folder back...

When you 'Import', don't use the 'bulk' import and select only the folders you want to see in your catalog. If you chose the "Pictures' folder, then all the media files it contains will be imported (indexed in the catalog). Import folder by folder, each folder will be imported with its subfolders.
